Second Guess

A question with a list of answers behind it, and a number on every answer. Everybody types one at the same time. Name an answer and you score what it was weighted — so the game is not "what would people say", it's "what did the writer think this was worth".

Who wrote the answers

One writer did. Every question, every answer and every number was written in advance. Nobody was surveyed. There is no poll behind any of this and the game never pretends there is.

That is the game, rather than a disclaimer at the bottom of one: you are guessing at another writer's judgement, which is a thing you can get good at.

📱 I'm playing

Join and answer →

Open this on your phone. No teams, no seats, no buzzer — everyone types at once, and answering first is worth exactly nothing.

📺 The board

Open the shared screen →

The window to put on a TV, project, or share in a call. It is never sent the answers while people are still typing, so there is nothing on it to give away by resizing or screenshotting it.

🎙️ Host controls

Run the game →

Needs the host PIN. This screen sees the answers from the moment the question goes up — put it on your phone or a second monitor, not the shared window.

How a round goes

Question upEveryone gets the same question and the same seconds. You can change your answer as many times as you like until the window shuts.
Window shutsEvery answer is read against the list. Anything unmistakable is scored on the spot.
The host clears upAnything the matcher would not call confidently goes to the host, who says which answer it meant or that it wasn't one. A confident wrong match would take points off the person who earned them, so the machine doesn't guess.
RevealThe whole list, every number, and who found what. Some questions are worth double or triple, and the board says so before you answer.

Playing without phones

From the host screen, under How answers come in: a room can be set so nobody joins it and the host types in what a chat window said. Lobby only, and switching empties the room.

Scored to namesType who said it alongside what they said. The names build up the same leaderboard phones would, and a second line from the same name replaces their first.
One room scoreType the answers only. Everything found goes into a single score and there is no leaderboard. An answer already found pays nothing the second time.
No clockA chat round stays open until the host closes it. A countdown could only ever cut off the host's typing, not the room's thinking, so there isn't one — the board shows how many answers are in instead.

Board options

The board takes its setup from the URL, so a scene can be a bookmark.

?room=CODEWhich room. Defaults to MAIN.
?join=…Override the join address, both the one the board prints and the one its QR code carries.
